December 26th, 2024: A stunning location! The home is delightful.

If you are looking for a few days in paradise then you need to go to 'Getaway' at the Current, in Eleuthera, one of the beautiful islands making up the Bahamas. The house is amazing with patios looking out on the ocean, and into the garden. You can choose to eat on either as they are both closed in. The kitchen is fully equipped so you can cook whatever you like. But then there is the beach, that you walk to, down a few steps. The water is clear and turquoise and if you are willing to dip into the water a few times you can walk a mile up the beach. I guarantee you will come back totally relaxed!

We spent our 18 days at Getaway doing a whole lot of ‘nothing' – sunbathing, swimming, kayaking, reading, eating, sleeping, catching up on ‘House of Cards’ and Wes Anderson flicks. It was exactly what we both needed after a run of very challenging years. The quiet location at the end of the road, far from everything, is so lovely and so ideal for a restorative vacation. The house itself is so well designed, with the screened porches running the length of both front and back. We hardly used the A/C, opting instead to keep all 8 sets of french doors opened wide to the delicious breeze and the sound of the water. We only used the A/C on a few very still nights, when keeping the doors open would have let the no-see-ums in.
The house is well supplied – beach towels & lounge chairs, lots of good books and movies, washing machine, a reasonable range of kitchen equipment. My one and only complaint is the sort of crummy plastic dishes and drinkware. My husband and I both found it odd, as though we weren’t to be trusted with glass or china. It’s a minor complaint, but an upgrade in that regard would bring my rating up from 4.9 stars to 5. : )
We only rented a car for the first week, so we were able to provision up from the stores in Bogue and on Harbour Island (Cap’n Bob’s Market and DaVine Wines on Harbour Island were awesome) and didn’t need the car for the rest of our stay. If one shops thoughtfully, it’s entirely possible to do without a car all together and instead rely on one of the local Taxi services. It’s $70 to Boque and back which, compared with $80/day for a rental car that sits in the driveway unused most days, could be a smart option for someone looking to save some money
