March 9th, 2022:  Amazing House
Getaway house exceeded our expectations. The house is very well-built and maintained to a high standard. The location is perfectly away from everything and the “pocket beach” was a dream. While we were not there to watch TV, I will say it was very nice to have actual cable tv with all the networks as opposed to just smart TVs like most rentals do these days (the tv at getaway is also a smart TV with Netflix and a few other streaming apps). Tim is very easy to communicate with and his property manager does a great job behind the scenes. We can’t wait to come back!

February 22nd, 2022: Heavenly
The property has everything one would want: Privacy, ocean access, a/c, a great library, and peace. We found the people of N Eleuthera to be incredibly kind and helpful. The owner’s list of contacts was reliable for local airline and car rental. It was our first visit to the Bahamas and plan to return soon.

January 3rd, 2022: Lovely Stay

This house had so many amenities, privacy, and a great view/access to a little piece of the Caribbean beach. Highly recommend this stay.

November 15th, 2021:  Wow- the pictures don’t do this house justice. What an incredible slice of your own private paradise! We didn’t meet Tim in person but Karen showed us in, very quick responses and easy communication from both. Tim helped us to organize a car rental which I’d highly recommend for getting around the island and exploring. We were really grateful for the fully equipped kitchen as it’s a little drive to a restaurant. Loved the 2 person kayak Couldn’t recommend this place more highly, we’ll certainly be back for another trip soon!!

October 9th, 2021:  The Getaway is a fantastic place to stay. It is very remote and has a beautiful waterfront setting. It is the best Air BnB we have ever stayed at.

"Thanks for letting us stay at your beautiful place. It was fantastic. Karen and Pedro do a great job for you.”

July 23rd, 2021:  We had a blast! This property is perfect for family fun and had everything we needed. The beach was perfect for relaxing and lots of ocean life to see while snorkeling. My son chased lizards around and enjoyed playing with the hermit crabs. We even caught and cooked up a very tasteful crab from the beach. When we arrived we were surprised to see the very tiny airport. Our cell phones did not work there and no one had any island maps. Be prepared to spend some money on groceries as they are VERY expensive and not much selection. Most of the places to eat out at all had the same food items and most do not have any atmosphere much less a place to sit down and eat. The only place we found that was decent was out by the glass window. Be prepared to drop $150 per meal for a family of 4 if you plan on eating out and expect chicken and hamburgers. We were a little disappointed that there wasn’t better island like restaurants. El Karaka Bar & Grill was fabulous and the view of the glass window and ocean is breathtaking. If you’re looking for more of a tourist area you will need to travel to Spanish Wells or Harbor Island.

July 10th, 2021:  What an adorable house! Everything was clean, well appointed and easy to access. We loved sitting in a sandy spot on the rocks to watch the sunsets! We've been to Eleuthera 16 times, with this trip being our third summer trip. The bugs were crazy most likely because of a lot of the undergrowth that was around the house. However, with a little bug spray and long sleeves, all was well. Thank you Tim, Pedro and Karen for a fabulous stay!

June 26th, 2021: This lovely house is exactly as pictured/described. It is truly secluded, which was what we were looking for, and has a gorgeous oceanfront - you step right from the rocky stairs onto soft sandy bottom in crystal clear waters. There are several pocket beaches, both in front of the house and walking to the Southwest - I had thought these might be private beaches of other homeowners, but the whole area is secluded it is easy to feel that you have it all to yourself. Though shallow, there is fun snorkeling in both directions (you have to walk a little way to the southwest - to the northwest it is right out your door). We saw plenty of fish, corals, a couple of rays, some octopus, etc...The screened porches are a godsend as we got a fair bit of rain during our visit, and the no-see-ums can be truly vicious (my only "complaint." Apparently they don't bother everyone, but they ate me alive so be prepared). Current is a sleepy little town with friendly people. The house itself is tastefully decorated with great AC - we also used the bikes that come with the house for some local exploring. Lots of geckos, hermit crabs and - a bonus for this western girl - fireflies! Tim and Pedro were responsive and easy to work with. We had a great time at the Getaway!

May 8th, 2021:  We stayed at the getaway for a week in May. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there, and Karen was responsive to any questions during our trip. The place is really private - you could go your whole time there without seeing anyone. We traveled to several in Eleuthera during our week here and at each one, though beautiful, we agreed that we preferred our spot in Current! I would recommend renting a sturdy car - the approach to the house is extremely bumpy and rocky. I’d highly recommend this rental to anyone looking for a beautiful, private, quiet vacation.

We spent our 18 days at Getaway doing a whole lot of ‘nothing' – sunbathing, swimming, kayaking, reading, eating, sleeping, catching up on ‘House of Cards’ and Wes Anderson flicks. It was exactly what we both needed after a run of very challenging years. The quiet location at the end of the road, far from everything, is so lovely and so ideal for a restorative vacation. The house itself is so well designed, with the screened porches running the length of both front and back. We hardly used the A/C, opting instead to keep all 8 sets of french doors opened wide to the delicious breeze and the sound of the water. We only used the A/C on a few very still nights, when keeping the doors open would have let the no-see-ums in.

The house is well supplied – beach towels & lounge chairs, lots of good books and movies, washing machine, a reasonable range of kitchen equipment. My one and only complaint is the sort of crummy plastic dishes and drinkware. My husband and I both found it odd, as though we weren’t to be trusted with glass or china. It’s a minor complaint, but an upgrade in that regard would bring my rating up from 4.9 stars to 5. : )

We only rented a car for the first week, so we were able to provision up from the stores in Bogue and on Harbour Island (Cap’n Bob’s Market and DaVine Wines on Harbour Island were awesome) and didn’t need the car for the rest of our stay. If one shops thoughtfully, it’s entirely possible to do without a car all together and instead rely on one of the local Taxi services. It’s $70 to Boque and back which, compared with $80/day for a rental car that sits in the driveway unused most days, could be a smart option for someone looking to save some money

December 20th, 2019: Wonderful, Beautiful, Peaceful Retreat away from the Usual!

Getaway is a unique chance to still experience the local hospitality, friendliness, and daily life of North Eleuthera. Along with an additional rent-able cottage, it offers an opportunity for larger groups to stay in this area. Tim, our Host, is a helpful, knowledgeable and great person to assist with planning your time on Eleuthera. He supplies a comprehensive packet of written information and willingly connected us to any other services we wanted. Getaway is well appointed for all basic things needed and on-site assistance from, Pedro or Karen is possible.  A car is necessary for the convenience of coming and going to grocery shop and visit the high points of the island. Daily walks along the beach or in the area or bicycle trips if preferred, visits to the local fishermen or the local (meaning the town of Current) store can get many of the daily supplies needed if you wish to minimize the use of a car. The beach in front of Getaway (only 50' away) has lost the large sand spread, but is wonderfully enjoyable with sand entrance to the water and rock ledge for beach chairs, campfires and gathering to watch the sunsets or just to 'hang-out' by the water. The beach area in front of Getaway offers easy, interesting snorkeling and an opportunity for an easy kayak trip in either direction from the property. On a windy day, it is an easy walk/bike ride to the opposite side of the island to have a more protected swim/walk or whatever - you can easily have the best choice each day you are there!! Sound like a wonderful place - it is!

Amazing stay at the getaway, cant wait to return. Nice cozy home with all the necessary things you would need during your stay. Nice beach once you get past the outcrops, which we didn't really mind as it felt like natural beauty. Found star fish, shells, sea glass and sand dollars Snorkeling on the beach. Kayaks where fun as well. Away from it all so you can really relax and feel your stresses melt away. Aside from food and wanting to explore the island we really could have stayed right there the entire trip. The road to the property and end of drive way could use some rebuilding but will definitely not stop us from returning hopefully soon. Cant wait!
