February 5th, 2020:
Don't Doubt It, Just Getaway! Getaway is an incredible property through-and-through. My wife and I visited in early February, and Karen/Pedro/Tim could not have made our visit any more enjoyable or easier. We arrived to ELH, picked up our rental, stopped by Burchies (recommend picking up groceries, Getaway has a great kitchen and grill!), and then headed to Getaway. Karen met us in Current, showed us to the house, gave us a quick tour, and then we quickly settled in and flipped our switches to vacation mode. The property is incredible. You can take your time exploring the jungle, the caves, the beach, the tidepools, and the water. Tons of local flora, creatures, and everything that Eleuthera has to offer. As for the house itself, it is perfect! The massive front and back porches are a dream, and the open common area in the house is great. Tim has taken the time to label (in what had to have been a painstaking process) so, so much in the home. It is incredibly helpful! As for the location, it is easily one of the most secluded places that I have ever visited. With that being said, it is still no more than a 20-30 minute drive to many of the sights of Northern Eleuthera. In 4 full days, we were able to visit Spanish Wells, Ben Bay Beach, Gaulding Cay, Whale Point Beach, Twin Sisters Beach, the Glass Window Bridge, Sapphire Blue Hole, Tay Bay Beach, and the local beaches in Current. Like the title says, just Getaway!

Eleuthera at its best! Everything about this place is great! It felt safe, Comfortable and Private. Karen the lady that took us to the house was great! We ended up eating most of our meals at the house, vary well equipped for cooking. Can’t wait to go back! Thanks Tim!

December 20th, 2019: Wonderful, Beautiful, Peaceful Retreat away from the Usual!
Getaway is a unique chance to still experience the local hospitality, friendliness, and daily life of North Eleuthera. Along with an additional rent-able cottage, it offers an opportunity for larger groups to stay in this area. Tim, our Host, is a helpful, knowledgeable and great person to assist with planning your time on Eleuthera. He supplies a comprehensive packet of written information and willingly connected us to any other services we wanted. Getaway is well appointed for all basic things needed and on-site assistance from, Pedro or Karen is possible. A car is necessary for the convenience of coming and going to grocery shop and visit the high points of the island. Daily walks along the beach or in the area or bicycle trips if preferred, visits to the local fishermen or the local (meaning the town of Current) store can get many of the daily supplies needed if you wish to minimize the use of a car. The beach in front of Getaway (only 50' away) has lost the large sand spread, but is wonderfully enjoyable with sand entrance to the water and rock ledge for beach chairs, campfires and gathering to watch the sunsets or just to 'hang-out' by the water. The beach area in front of Getaway offers easy, interesting snorkeling and an opportunity for an easy kayak trip in either direction from the property. On a windy day, it is an easy walk/bike ride to the opposite side of the island to have a more protected swim/walk or whatever - you can easily have the best choice each day you are there!! Sound like a wonderful place - it is!
Jane S.May 9th, 2019: Caribbean Gem! The owner was professional and pleasant. The caretaker of property was professional knowledgeable about the Island. The home is a beautiful Caribbean secluded gem that sat on a large coral cave. If you’re looking for privacy you got it. I suggest a rental car even thou there is 4 mountain bikes if you’re into sightseeing & restaurants, the whole island is about a 3 hour drive with pit stops but well worth it. And bring water shoes. There is a huge grocery store in the Bluff about 20 min from home. And if you have any questions just ask the locals they are so friendly & lovely.

April 21st, 2019: Nice home if you stay here rent a car to help get around. We loved the peace and quiet. Thanks for a great stay the home was really nice even better than the pictures.
Perry M.April 6th, 2019: Perfect house! The house is so lovely and comfortable. Tastefully decorated. Thoughtful little touches like labelling the switches, and detailed instructions for everything you may need. Stunning, clear, mostly calm water. If north Eleuthera is where you want to be, this is the house to rent! (But rent a car with good suspension!)
Elise H.March 30th, 2019: Great Trip! Great house right on the water in Current. House was very clean and comfortable. Only one private room though. The upstairs is a loft that is open to the whole house. Very clean and well provisioned with all the cooking needs. Karen was very responsive and able to help when we ran out of propane. The landscaping need to be cut back a lot as the trail to the water was grown over. All in all an excellent home in Current and we had such a fun time! Thank you!
Paul S.March 23rd, 2019: Two of us recently spent a week at this property and enjoyed it very much. We thought the house had a really nice feel and character. It was clean, cared for and well equipped. The owner and his caretaker were responsive, accommodating, welcoming, and helpful. I believe they had true concern for our experience, which was absolutely great. It's definitely private and somewhat secluded, which is what we were after and loved, but it is a bit of a drive to any kind of nightlife / restaurant scene. Having said that, the caretaker told us about a small variety store which has apparently opened recently down the road and is run by a local fisherman who sold us some incredibly great fresh Grouper and also had Lobster, Conch, etc. Definitely recommended. The house sits on coral, so there isn't exactly a beach in the usual sense, but there were pockets of sand big enough for lounge chairs which we thought was totally fine. And weather / tide permitting, there is what we thought was a very special, completely private small beach right there - I think it's in the pictures. It was a huge bonus we were able to use a few times but not sure you can totally count on it. Having done a number of vacation rentals, something that stood out was the thoroughness of information / guides / contacts regarding the area and activities. For instance we were able to book a rental car directly through the property's website which made life much easier and was seamless. Also appreciated were the selection of books, games and dvd's. Overall, nothing but good things to say. We had a wonderful vacation and would definitely stay here again. Thanks!
Fred H.March 12th, 2019: An Amazing Vacation! I don't often take the time to write reviews, but for our Getaway vacation I am making an exception. Getaway/Eleuthera are amazing! As other reviews have indicated, Getaway is even better than the pictures. Both the house and surrounding property are absolutely lovely ... extremely private but not isolated. There are some vacation homes down the road and Current Settlement (with a small store) is only a 5-10 minute walk . Getaway's shoreline is rocky (versus sand beach) but my kids actually preferred it. Lots of caves/ocean holes to explore! There are sandy patches at low tide and a great beach a short swim/walk away. Snorkeling in front of the cottage and down toward the Northside Beach!
The cottage was nicely decorated, airy and very well equipped. The 4 bikes (which we used every day), kayak, beach towels and BBQ came in very handy. We used both the front and back screened-in areas on a daily basis. Tim was great to deal with (by phone and email) and answered our questions honestly, and on a very timely basis. Karen (Getaway's Caretaker) was also amazing ... very helpful, responsive and a super local resource. Would definitely recommend renting a car (4x4) to explore the area and the rest of the island ... although we liked Current the best! Delicious local take-out food at He-Brews in Upper Bogue (10 minute drive). Fresh bread available in Lower Bogue (5 minute drive). Also recommend hitting a pizza night at the Rainbow Inn Restaurant (20 minute drive). We had a fantastic time fishing and snorkeling with Captain Bruno from Underwood Charters out of Spanish Wells - highly recommended. Grocery shopping at the North Eleuthera Shopping Centre exceeded our expectations. They have a nice selection of produce/dairy and meats.
Overall, a great vacation. We were struck by the friendliness/helpfulness of everyone on Eleuthera. On two occasions we had to stop by the side of the road - once for a bike repair, and another to look at a map - and within minutes locals offered assistance. We are already planning our return to Getaway next year!
Leigh H.February 18th, 2019: My husband and I were looking for a quiet, private home with beach access. Getaway definitely delivered. There was a kayak, snorkeling equipment (we brought our own) beach umbrella, and bicycles for our use. Pedro, thank you for the use of your cooler. There was plenty of towels, sheets, etc. the place was so fantastic, we hated to leave, so we didn’t do as much touring as we had originally planned. We did make it to several local attractions and as far down as Sky Beach, which is a beautiful pink sand beach. Once we arrived at Getaway, we took stock of what was available at the house and then hit a grocery store and bought other staples. Be prepared to pay more for anything you buy, but you should expect that since everything is imported onto the island. We did buy produce from a couple of veggie and fruit vendors along the road. We had a lunch and dinner at Daddy Joes and dinner and take out from Seven Seas. We had a beach during low tides, but we didn’t mind as we spent our time either in the water or lounging on the beach chairs. We snorkeled right off this beach, not a huge amount of fish to see, but we did see trumpet fish, small reef fish and on our last day a manta Ray. Bugs. Didn’t see any bugs in or around the house, but the sand flies (no seemsums) are merciless. I must have hundreds of bites all over my body. Buy the strongest bug spray you can buy and use it all the time. I also suggest the largest tube of cortizone to help with the itching. I ultimately found a combination of cortisone and ice relieved some of the itching. The other caution is if you are traveling with kids, the beach area has a lot of jagged coral. This was not an issue for us. I do suggest beach shoes as it did make walking around Getaway and other spots we visited easier to explore. All in all a great week. As I mentioned earlier, we loved it so much, we didn’t tour the mid to south end of the island. Enjoy!
