March 12th, 2019: An Amazing Vacation!  I don't often take the time to write reviews, but for our Getaway vacation I am making an exception. Getaway/Eleuthera are amazing! As other reviews have indicated, Getaway is even better than the pictures. Both the house and surrounding property are absolutely lovely ... extremely private but not isolated. There are some vacation homes down the road and Current Settlement (with a small store) is only a 5-10 minute walk . Getaway's shoreline is rocky (versus sand beach) but my kids actually preferred it. Lots of caves/ocean holes to explore! There are sandy patches at low tide and a great beach a short swim/walk away. Snorkeling in front of the cottage and down toward the Northside Beach!

The cottage was nicely decorated, airy and very well equipped. The 4 bikes (which we used every day), kayak, beach towels and BBQ came in very handy. We used both the front and back screened-in areas on a daily basis. Tim was great to deal with (by phone and email) and answered our questions honestly, and on a very timely basis. Karen (Getaway's Caretaker) was also amazing ... very helpful, responsive and a super local resource. Would definitely recommend renting a car (4x4) to explore the area and the rest of the island ... although we liked Current the best! Delicious local take-out food at He-Brews in Upper Bogue (10 minute drive). Fresh bread available in Lower Bogue (5 minute drive). Also recommend hitting a pizza night at the Rainbow Inn Restaurant (20 minute drive). We had a fantastic time fishing and snorkeling with Captain Bruno from Underwood Charters out of Spanish Wells - highly recommended. Grocery shopping at the North Eleuthera Shopping Centre exceeded our expectations. They have a nice selection of produce/dairy and meats.

Overall, a great vacation. We were struck by the friendliness/helpfulness of everyone on Eleuthera. On two occasions we had to stop by the side of the road - once for a bike repair, and another to look at a map - and within minutes locals offered assistance. We are already planning our return to Getaway next year!

February 18th, 2019: My husband and I were looking for a quiet, private home with beach access. Getaway definitely delivered. There was a kayak, snorkeling equipment (we brought our own) beach umbrella, and bicycles for our use. Pedro, thank you for the use of your cooler. There was plenty of towels, sheets, etc. the place was so fantastic, we hated to leave, so we didn’t do as much touring as we had originally planned. We did make it to several local attractions and as far down as Sky Beach, which is a beautiful pink sand beach. Once we arrived at Getaway, we took stock of what was available at the house and then hit a grocery store and bought other staples. Be prepared to pay more for anything you buy, but you should expect that since everything is imported onto the island. We did buy produce from a couple of veggie and fruit vendors along the road. We had a lunch and dinner at Daddy Joes and dinner and take out from Seven Seas. We had a beach during low tides, but we didn’t mind as we spent our time either in the water or lounging on the beach chairs. We snorkeled right off this beach, not a huge amount of fish to see, but we did see trumpet fish, small reef fish and on our last day a manta Ray. Bugs. Didn’t see any bugs in or around the house, but the sand flies (no seemsums) are merciless. I must have hundreds of bites all over my body. Buy the strongest bug spray you can buy and use it all the time. I also suggest the largest tube of cortizone to help with the itching. I ultimately found a combination of cortisone and ice relieved some of the itching. The other caution is if you are traveling with kids, the beach area has a lot of jagged coral. This was not an issue for us. I do suggest beach shoes as it did make walking around Getaway and other spots we visited easier to explore. All in all a great week. As I mentioned earlier, we loved it so much, we didn’t tour the mid to south end of the island. Enjoy!

February 2nd, 2019: A perfect getaway

We had a fantastic secluded stay . The property is beautiful, clean, and looked just like the photos. There was no sand on the beach during our stay, but there was plenty of space on the rocks to enjoy the sun and beautiful sunsets. Tim arranged for our rental car, making our arrival and departure a breeze. This house delivered everything that we hoped that it would and highly recommend it to anyone looking to getaway.

January 18, 2019: Best place to stay in whole Eleuthera. Tim was such a good host, everything was clean, fresh and more beautiful than in the pictures. Will definately recommend Tim 🙂 5 stars from Denmark!

December 25th, 2018: People who love there privacy will love it. Mostly the sea is very calm and a walk on the side is so nice...and so much to see.. little fish and shells. One day we saw dolphins passing by. One thing we didn't like were the sandfleas...so watching the beautiful sunset you need the right clothes. The bicycles that you can make use of are perfect we have had a fun time using them. House is nice and clean. Washing machine available. Tim and Karen thanks for staying and taking care and helping us having a very nice holiday.

December 15th, 2018: Wow, what a stay. Beautiful water, beautiful home, beautiful surroundings. Can't say enough good things about the Eleuthera Getaway. We were looking for somewhere to go "off the grid" for a week after a stressful work year, and could not have found a better place. We only saw one person near the property in 9 days! You can truly get the Castaway feeling.

We landed at North Eleuthera Airport, picked up our rental Jeep Wrangler, and drove over to the home. Road is pretty bumpy so you probably will want a vehicle that can handle it. Check in was seamless, and both caregivers were open and helpful. Grocery store and liquor stores are about a 30 minute drive. We brought frozen meat from the US.

As far as the home goes, Wifi worked great, we were able to stream Netflix/Hulu with zero problems. Kitchen is stocked with basically everything you need. Power went out a few times but you don't even notice. Generator automatically kicks in.

The ocean side of the home is a bit rocky, but we knew that going in. When we stayed, the beach was gone for the most part, but during low tide we had a nice little "pocket beach" down the stairs. We spent most of our time down in the pocket beach. When the weather is calm, the water is crystal clear. Even in November the water was warm!

5 Stars.

Review 1: What an amazing trip. We don’t want to go home!! Karen and Pedro are amazing and your home is amazing! Thank you for everything! We will be back next year! Definitely the best stay in the 15 years we’ve been coming here! Thank you all!!

Review 2: We loved our stay so much and the house is beautiful! The pictures definitely do not even show how amazing it is! The two massive screened in porches were a wonderful place to sit back and relax. Great snorkeling right next to the house and we saw lots of rays and all kinds of fish. Karen and Pedro were also amazing and we plan to return next year! Thanks to Tim for sharing his beautiful home! We loved every second of our secluded vacation

“Beautiful home in a beautiful location! Steps away from your own private swim in the turquoise ocean, and sunsets were gorgeous from the porch or from the lounge chairs with a sunset view next to the ocean! The home has some great features like screened - in porches and outdoor shower, as well as plenty of space, beautifully decorated. Remote location is accessible by car, but we recommend a four-wheel drive or jeep. Not able to walk to town readily, nor is there anything to walk to (stores, restaurants). Grocery stores nearby are stocked with mostly canned foods and are more like what those coming from the USA would think of as a very small convenience store, not a big grocery store. Also, keep in mind when visiting this island, that emergency medical help is not readily available, so that may be a consideration. Otherwise, Current Settlement is definitely private and not a crowded or touristy location at all. The house itself is lovely! ”

As translated through "Google Translate" service:

A dream home, spacious, with attention to detail, overlooking the sea. To know that it is a bit far from everything, and that the services offered by the neighboring villages (lunch / dinner, shopping) are a bit modest: for the food, you need to have a certain spirit of adaptation. "Living" here was really nice for us.

January 27th, 2025: And before I forget, your property - house, grounds, views, furnishings etc etc is just absolutely gorgeous. We are so very much enjoying ourselves. Your place is reminding my wife of Pebble Beach in Monterey.

January 14th, 2024: Beautiful house surrounded by nature

Fabulous well-equipped home - everything is there! Bike rides into Current and Current Cut in the mornings then swimming and sunning in the afternoons. Etched rock steps leading into the sea. Fishing boats and sailboats mooring off shore. We enjoyed both the open and screened porches. 10 stars!!!!

May 9th, 2019: Caribbean Gem!  The owner was professional and pleasant. The caretaker of property was professional knowledgeable about the Island. The home is a beautiful Caribbean secluded gem that sat on a large coral cave. If you’re looking for privacy you got it. I suggest a rental car even thou there is 4 mountain bikes if you’re into sightseeing & restaurants, the whole island is about a 3 hour drive with pit stops but well worth it. And bring water shoes. There is a huge grocery store in the Bluff about 20 min from home. And if you have any questions just ask the locals they are so friendly & lovely.
