March 3rd, 2020:  Our return visit was just as wonderful as our first time!  Getaway is a beautiful home and property, fully stocked with many little things we didn't know that we would want. At the end of a road, it is also wonderfully peaceful and quiet.

January 15th, 2020: Wow, what a great time we had. First let me thank thank Tim for being so kind as to work my ever changing date of arrival. The joy of flying Non-Rev. my wife and I escaped once again to this magical island without our children for some well deserved alone time. From North Eleuthera airport We took a cab and first stopped at the liquor store then headed to the grocery store for some basic essentials ($ 40 cab) We Then met Karen in Current for assistance to the house. She gave us the lay of the land and was a delight. If we ever had a question she was always reachable. The house had everything that we could need for our time in Eleuthera. We enjoyed the location for the first two days without leaving. We rode the bikes into current and grabbed some snacks and lobster from Karen’s small store. Played in the crystal clear water, explored the coast line with the kayak. Enjoyed peaceful sunsets with the occasional boat passing by. Never even saw a soul on the beach. If you are in need of some valuable time away from the crowds and overpriced drinks this is it. Eleuthera is a hidden gem and we always look forward to our visits. I would definitely come back Thanks for a fabulous time We already miss it

February 5th, 2020: Don't Doubt It, Just Getaway!  Getaway is an incredible property through-and-through. My wife and I visited in early February, and Karen/Pedro/Tim could not have made our visit any more enjoyable or easier. We arrived to ELH, picked up our rental, stopped by Burchies (recommend picking up groceries, Getaway has a great kitchen and grill!), and then headed to Getaway. Karen met us in Current, showed us to the house, gave us a quick tour, and then we quickly settled in and flipped our switches to vacation mode. The property is incredible. You can take your time exploring the jungle, the caves, the beach, the tidepools, and the water. Tons of local flora, creatures, and everything that Eleuthera has to offer. As for the house itself, it is perfect! The massive front and back porches are a dream, and the open common area in the house is great. Tim has taken the time to label (in what had to have been a painstaking process) so, so much in the home. It is incredibly helpful! As for the location, it is easily one of the most secluded places that I have ever visited. With that being said, it is still no more than a 20-30 minute drive to many of the sights of Northern Eleuthera. In 4 full days, we were able to visit Spanish Wells, Ben Bay Beach, Gaulding Cay, Whale Point Beach, Twin Sisters Beach, the Glass Window Bridge, Sapphire Blue Hole, Tay Bay Beach, and the local beaches in Current. Like the title says, just Getaway!

February 15, 2020: Eleuthera at its best!  Everything about this place is great! It felt safe, Comfortable and Private. Karen the lady that took us to the house was great! We ended up eating most of our meals at the house, vary well equipped for cooking. Can’t wait to go back! Thanks Tim!

December 20th, 2019: Wonderful, Beautiful, Peaceful Retreat away from the Usual!

Getaway is a unique chance to still experience the local hospitality, friendliness, and daily life of North Eleuthera. Along with an additional rent-able cottage, it offers an opportunity for larger groups to stay in this area. Tim, our Host, is a helpful, knowledgeable and great person to assist with planning your time on Eleuthera. He supplies a comprehensive packet of written information and willingly connected us to any other services we wanted. Getaway is well appointed for all basic things needed and on-site assistance from, Pedro or Karen is possible.  A car is necessary for the convenience of coming and going to grocery shop and visit the high points of the island. Daily walks along the beach or in the area or bicycle trips if preferred, visits to the local fishermen or the local (meaning the town of Current) store can get many of the daily supplies needed if you wish to minimize the use of a car. The beach in front of Getaway (only 50' away) has lost the large sand spread, but is wonderfully enjoyable with sand entrance to the water and rock ledge for beach chairs, campfires and gathering to watch the sunsets or just to 'hang-out' by the water. The beach area in front of Getaway offers easy, interesting snorkeling and an opportunity for an easy kayak trip in either direction from the property. On a windy day, it is an easy walk/bike ride to the opposite side of the island to have a more protected swim/walk or whatever - you can easily have the best choice each day you are there!! Sound like a wonderful place - it is!

May 9th, 2019: Caribbean Gem!  The owner was professional and pleasant. The caretaker of property was professional knowledgeable about the Island. The home is a beautiful Caribbean secluded gem that sat on a large coral cave. If you’re looking for privacy you got it. I suggest a rental car even thou there is 4 mountain bikes if you’re into sightseeing & restaurants, the whole island is about a 3 hour drive with pit stops but well worth it. And bring water shoes. There is a huge grocery store in the Bluff about 20 min from home. And if you have any questions just ask the locals they are so friendly & lovely.

April 6th, 2019: Perfect house!  The house is so lovely and comfortable. Tastefully decorated. Thoughtful little touches like labelling the switches, and detailed instructions for everything you may need. Stunning, clear, mostly calm water. If north Eleuthera is where you want to be, this is the house to rent! (But rent a car with good suspension!)

March 30th, 2019: Great Trip! Great house right on the water in Current. House was very clean and comfortable. Only one private room though. The upstairs is a loft that is open to the whole house. Very clean and well provisioned with all the cooking needs. Karen was very responsive and able to help when we ran out of propane. The landscaping need to be cut back a lot as the trail to the water was grown over. All in all an excellent home in Current and we had such a fun time! Thank you!

March 23rd, 2019: Two of us recently spent a week at this property and enjoyed it very much. We thought the house had a really nice feel and character. It was clean, cared for and well equipped. The owner and his caretaker were responsive, accommodating, welcoming, and helpful. I believe they had true concern for our experience, which was absolutely great. It's definitely private and somewhat secluded, which is what we were after and loved, but it is a bit of a drive to any kind of nightlife / restaurant scene. Having said that, the caretaker told us about a small variety store which has apparently opened recently down the road and is run by a local fisherman who sold us some incredibly great fresh Grouper and also had Lobster, Conch, etc. Definitely recommended. The house sits on coral, so there isn't exactly a beach in the usual sense, but there were pockets of sand big enough for lounge chairs which we thought was totally fine. And weather / tide permitting, there is what we thought was a very special, completely private small beach right there - I think it's in the pictures. It was a huge bonus we were able to use a few times but not sure you can totally count on it. Having done a number of vacation rentals, something that stood out was the thoroughness of information / guides / contacts regarding the area and activities. For instance we were able to book a rental car directly through the property's website which made life much easier and was seamless. Also appreciated were the selection of books, games and dvd's. Overall, nothing but good things to say. We had a wonderful vacation and would definitely stay here again. Thanks!

We had a great time at GetAway---really nice house and maintained very well—spotlessly clean and well equipped throughout. We appreciate the help and the nice vacation.

We loved the house. Reluctant to give a great review because we selfishly want it to be available for our next visit.
PROS:
- Private
- Well decorated, bright, modern & clean.
- Impeccably maintained house. Maintaining homes on Eleuthera is a challenge, we know how much work it takes.
-Kitchen well appointed for cooking.
- Nice views. Sunsets!
- Awesome bikes that are well maintained (a rare find!).
- Bathroom well supplied with soap & tissue.
CONS:
- Would be difficult for anyone mobility impaired due to steps & rocks to get into water. However there is a sand beach a 5 min bike ride away.
- Screen porch mesh is too big, so no see bugs can still get you. However to screen it in more would spoil view. It does keep out all the other sunset biters.

Thanks for sharing your family’s special space!
We relaxed to the max!

January 30th, 2024: Restful wonderful waterfront retreat

If you like listening to waves, “Getaway” is perfect and its pocket beach is wonderful, and the sunset view is gorgeous. The kitchen is very well stocked with what’s necessary to cook meals, including condiments, spices, and herbs. Also there are movie DVDs, board games, and books. An SUV with a high ride height is recommended for navigating the dirt road. The settlement of Current is remote, which means this really is a peaceful “Getaway”. Driving a short distance farther along the main road takes you to that end of the island where there used to be activity. Park and take a pleasant isolated hike along the shore on a dirt-and-rock road around to the Cut and beyond the bend. It’s also a quick drive to the ferries to Spanish Wells or Harbour Island, which are pleasant day trips. Other than that, it’s a bit of a trek to Governor’s Harbour. We didn’t go farther south than that.
